2012 is starting off to be a very good year for The World Airline Road Race.
The CNTO and Team China are going above and beyond to make us feel welcome and do whatever they can to make our events memorable.

This just in, there will be a free day trip offered to all runners and family members. The trip will be hosted on Famous Bullet Train! It will take us between the cities of Qingdao and Zibo. All the details are still being worked out but while in Zibo we will have some sort of exhibition sporting run or calisthenics followed by a large sponsored party. We hope to event medallions and gifts available for all who attend.
We might take advantage of some conference space in Zibo to hold the team Captains meeting.

Come to China early as we are going to try and line up events each night starting as early as Wednesday leading up to the race that will be held Sunday morning. We will be running in an area used for the 2008 Olympics. The run will be along the Yellow sea and very scenic.

Do some research on Qingdao, you will be surprised how much history there is in the area, this trip will be packed with things to do and places to see.

I can't explain how excited I am as I start to get involved in the planning of The World Airline Road Race 2012 in China. This will be a very new view of China for those of you that have been to the 2009 event and a great taste of China for those of you that have never been before. CNTO travel will be of major support to all of us, they have NEW ownership in place with a very technically advanced team of travel experts to help us book all aspects of the event. CNTO is ready to go above and beyond to make 2012 an event to remember. New in 2012 you will be able to book with CNTO or on your own. Keep posted to this site and also be on the lookout for a flood of Mail Blasts that will be sent out with details as they become available.

The flavor of Texas will be obvious to all that attend The World Airline Road Race 2011 in Grapevine/Dallas.
The best part about holding The World Airline Road Race in a new city each year is you get the flavor of new parts of the world. This year in Texas “Running With The Big Dogs” is more than just a name. After the 5K and 10K are complete your host in Texas has added a 1-mile Remembrance walk/Run that will allow our four legged friends to join in. This is an option on the registration page also, if the 10K or 5K are just a little to far for you this year, think about joining the 1-mile Remembrance. With or without a dog you are welcome to join the 1-mile.

Hotel deadline is fast upon us; take a few minutes to book your room so you can stay near the fun. I have been to the Host hotel you will not be sorry you booked there. They have good food and a nice bar along with many other facilities. You can find links on the International web page that will take you to the hotel booking page.

While you are sitting at you’re desk or home enjoying coffee, register for the races. Our host who is putting in a lot of work needs to know how many runners will be at the event this year. There are a lot of details to be taken care of and the sooner we get close to a final turn out number the easier the job is for our host. Registration ends Friday the 9th of September Rate increases July 27th.

I started to do some Internet research and was surprised to find a $180,00 USD round trip airfare available between Chicago and Dallas. Check it out, there seems to be some really deep discounts available right now. I have not seen an airfare that low between the two cities EVER. If your airline does not fly none-stop to DFW thing about an alternate U.S. city and then take advantage of the sale that seems to be going on right now. Look at IAH, ORD, LAX, EWR, DEN. I found some dirt-cheap fares between all of these large cities.

More than a race

The World Airline Road Race is more than the Race event series.

If you were to comb through our web page you would see that there are many things for none runners to enjoy at the World Airline Road Race. We have airline professionals and none airline people who attend our event every year and never lace up a pair of running shoes. I can run a 10K and 5K any weekend of the year in Chicago but the reason I chose to make my pilgrimage to the World Airline Road Race is to see old friends and make new ones. While in London I received an e-mail from a
Women who had retired from British Airways years ago and had lost contact with her
Friends she used to work with. She asked if she could attend/volunteer and see if she knew anyone from “the old days”. Of course I said yes, then sent her a detailed list of the times and places that each social event was going to take place. Sunday morning at the Novotel I found a card under my room door that read “found a friend I had lost touch with, thanks” .
So there you have it, the event is more than the race series, encourage runners,walkers,spectators and people that just like to share in fellowship and share best practices of our industries. The more people we have at the event will only add to the fun and flavor had by all.

We were all just sitting around having a cup of coffee and your name came up. Becky asked if you were going to be at the World Airline Road Race in Texas, I was not sure. I told her to send you a text and ask. She looked through her phone then told me she did not have you number. I looked and I noticed I did not have the number. I called John and he said he did not have your number but he said he would call Mer to see if she had it. Turns out she did not have it. Now I’m starting to get worried, as you are one of our favorite guests during the race weekend. So here is our only avenue to ask you to register for The World Airline Road Race 2011 in Texas, you know it will be fun!

Hey Runners.

Just home from Texas. The World Airline Road Race 2011
is shaping up to be one for the books ! They say variety
is the spice of life and our life will be flavorful ! David is
working on setting up the registration page. Becky is working with
me on kick starting the planning for Texas and John and Graig are
trying to engage new airlines and runners for 2011. It will be hard

All is going well with Registration,there are a few that have had some credit card issues but they seem to be getting worked out.(thanks to Craig) Sounds to me like there is an extra layer of security due to the international scope of our event. Team Captains, the backbone of of growth now is the time to push! We need to fill the last 1/4 of the race course limit to be able to grow our club and help Dream Flight with a nice gift.

Well as we approach the final few months before London and the World Airline Road Race 2010 I hope everyone has started to make their plans in advance. I know as airline people we sometimes like to “fly by the seat of our pants” because of the economic environment in the world and venue limitations we need you to book at least the race festival registration before July 24th to receive the early booking discount. I have been dealing with many of you on a regular basis, I feel as if I know some of you just from the e-mails or maybe sending you your History T-shirt orders. I still have some available so if you have not seen them or heard about the history shirts take a look at the international World Airline Road Race web page and place your order today. Remember the monies earned here help to pay for your race weekend. Have you heard about the Chairman’s challenge? Team Captains or runners who bring a Virgin runner to our event will get credit towards an award. Here is how it works, when your new runner registers they will have the option to fill in a box “who referred you to WARR “ just have them fill in your name and we will do the rest. Whoever has the most referrals will be awarded a prize for their efforts. The challenge is making a difference; we already have 75+ virgins registered for the Festival weekend. Incomplete race registrations if you went on the registration site and filled out the form but did not complete it you will be receiving an
e-mail from Craig Johnson. He is just trying to make sure nobody is under the impression they had filled it out complete when in fact it was not finished. This should help to eliminate runners showing up under the impression they registered when in fact they did not. So if you or any of your team members receive e-mails from Craig, work with him to make sure all is worked out before the Festival. Team Captains, now is the time to push not only your team but airlines from your home airport. Get the word out and build out membership for 2010 and into the future.

We expect London to sell out prior to the race weekend. It's for that reason there will be no walk ups allowed. Could you imagine if we did not advertise no walk ups, the race sells out and runners show up race weekend thinking they can just register in London only to find out the race is sold out? To avoid people flying 3000 miles only to find out the race is full, there will be **NO RACE WEEKEND REGISTRATION**

Do not delay! I have the registration set up so when you register
I get and e-mail and text message sent to me. Its kinda cool, I get a message to tell me the Joe Blow has just registered for the race, he lives in Hong Kong. First thing I would do is think, what time is it in Hong Kong right now? Joe must have just finished dinner and sat down to do some work on his computer and thought to sign up for the race. Makes the World seem small. Anyway, now days I have turned off the text message function because to many people are signing up each day. I still get the e-mails as I like to keep track and share that information with the team captains. If this rate keeps up the race will be sold out before The Race Festival Weekend! Do not delay, register for the race early to make sure you can see your friends and run in the races.

So far this year we have had 17 new runners register for The Race Festival
in London. Have you all heard about the Chairman's challenge? There will
be an award for the team Captain/WARRior that brings the most new runners
to London. On the registration form there will be a question "Is this your first
time running with the World Airline Road Race"? New runners will have to answer yes
and then fill in the form that asks who got you involved. Once the new runner has registered no changes can be made.(so they must name the WARRior who refereed them at the time of registration) The Captain/WARRior that has the most points will win. Of course Chairman's call on the winner is final and not up for review. Results will be made public.

Team Captains

Dear Team,

WARR 2010

Just home from a short but awesome trip to London to preview the 2010 site and venues, runners are in for a treat in 2010! The run will be held in the Victoria Dock area and your Hotels/awards event/Watering hole and T-shirt swap are all within walking distance of each other. No need for a D.D. the night of the T-shirt swap party! The Victoria Docks are about a 40-minute train ride from LHR and there are a few options on train tickets so do your homework before you get to London. (Check oyster card) I really think you will save more money and time by staying in the Dock area as home base and traveling out from there to sight see. The hotels (to be named soon) are going to offer a nice discount for us. Its just more fun if we all stay in the same area. There will be a few changes in 2010, no Mayor reception, and no V.I.P reception unless the need comes up. (Major sponsor wants it) The term Gala will no longer be used, the event where we eat drink and hand out awards is going to be more of a party then a Gala. We will enjoy good food and drink and hand out awards. (Cost savings) we are in survival mode.

In 2010 there will be a Team Captain challenge, it’s going to be a member drive. Interest in WARR is at all time low and I will be very honest we are on the verge of fading away without your help. The last two years were 600 and 500 runners; we can’t make a profit for charity with those numbers. The state of economics around the world has made it very hard to draw sponsors. Our only hope is to increase participation. Each team captain that enters a new runner will get a point. Each team captain that forms a new airline team will get two points. The team captain with the most points will be awarded a prize at the T-shirt swap party. (Prize will be named soon) Start to think of ways to enlist new runners and teams.

Sponsors, I send out 3 or 4 letters a day to companies I think might benefit from pairing up with us. Kashi, weaties, Boeing just to name a few; the problem is getting a name on the inside. If any of you know companies or people in a position that might be able to help WARR let me know. It’s your club and we all need to make an effort to make sure WARR goes on into the future. The Host ( BA ) and the International do have a few sponsors on the hook just working out the details now on what level they will help out but we need your help, sponsors are what help us make the event memorable.

O.k. enough work, I’m in Hawaii, the Big Island and yes I was here for the Tsunami warning. It was a little scary but also kind of cool. I’m glad nothing got damaged and nobody got hurt but it would have been cool to see an amazing wonder of nature. I’m off to Kona for some lunch, think of ways to help your club, check the International and Host web pages often. Get involved, its way more fun if you do!

Runners,

The history shirts are being produced.
I received a lot of good feedback and put as much
of the feedback to use as I could. I figured if I follow the feedback
more people will be happy. We are going to have 3 types of shirts for sale.
Dry fit(TM) for those of you that need a shirt to train in.
90/10 blend costs less and is good for training or goes good with jeans.
Long sleeve 100% cotton, good for cool mornings or under a hoodie. One issues I still need to solve is shipping.

Contest, in 2010 we are going to have a contest open to all runners. Each new
runner you bring to London will score you a point. Each new airline team you
organize will score you 2 points. We are working on the details, the prize will
be a good one and worth the task. Keep checking the INT site for details as they become available.

Details are starting to come out on London.
The race course will be around the Royal Victoria Dock adjacent to the ExCeL exhibition and conference centre and the main festival venues will all be in the same vicinity.

We hope to have race registration open in a few weeks so check the web-page often and start spreading the word about The World Airline Road Race 2010.

Check the team Captains section on the web-site and e-mail in any errors you see.

Happy New Year to all!

My running is going well, I can tell 2010 is going to be a good year on the road for me. I really hope it will be for each and every one of you! Work on London is going well, doing all we can to keep costs down for our members. With that said, we are at a cross roads and need to get Warriors involved year round in helping to keep WARR going. The more fundraisers or Sponsors we have/find the less it will cost runners and the brighter the future of WARR will be. I send out 3 or 4 letters a week to companies asking if they would like to get involved with us but the reply is almost always the same, "the economic climate prevents us from getting involved, contact us in 2011 if you would like" Its frustrating to say the least but I understand the climate. We need to start thinking outside the box, I hate the term but we need to do all we can to bring some money into the Club. Ralph did a nice job selling his photo packed DVDs and I have just designed a WARR history tee-shirt for sale on the home page. All funds will be used towards WARR 2010 and the future of WARR. An interesting side note, The World Airline Road Race is in the process of re-incorporation in the United States. This is not cheap and involves a TON of paperwork. What does this do for us? saves us money in the long run. Also protects us from liabilities.

Team Captains, we need your help. I know our lives are busy but you need to set aside some time to try and help keep WARR going.

Sari sent an awesome idea for a 30 year memory book to be made. It could house pictures from years past along with stories,letters,marriages and running encouragement. I would like to put together a group of 4 or 5 people to work on the book. Send me an e-mail if you have some interest or any idea's. ( needs to be done for 2011 WARR )

WAR Tee-Shirt design is done(will be posted on the INT. soon). I think they turned out awesome. Team Captains,
First off let me say a warm healthy happy holiday season to all!
My tree is in the stand just waiting for the neighbors to stop by for a drink and
to help me make it look festive. I watched White Christmas the other night and
it has put me in the mood! So once again Happy Holidays to all!

I have been a runner for well over 30 years and in 2010, I have rededicated myself
to getting back into form. This will be the first winter of my running life that I am not
going to move my running indoors onto a treadmill. My plan is to run outdoors all winter
long. The only thing I will need to watch out for is ICE. With my rebuilt knees ice is a major concern.

The World Airline Road Race has come to life, I have filed with the state of Illinois for 501c status.( charity) I have also filed with the state for Incorporation.( protection) We have a new Checking account and all the paperwork seems to be in order. I have had a very busy few months and need the team captains to step up and help make this worth the time and effort. The DVD that Ralph and Angela put together is awesome, 1600 pictures. The resolution is so good I was able to watch it on my 62 inch t.v. and it was crystal clear. I'm pretty sure we have sold out but if you still want one let me know and I will see if Ralph can scare one up. ( would make a great stocking stuffer )

Team Captains step up! We need your help with idea's and engagement. The more everyone gets inviolved the more fun the event in London will be.

I hope to announce on New Years Day the location of WARR 2011.

Team Captains,

I just got back from a trip to Ottawa to meet with Jim and Rick so we could go over WARR’s past and take a look at the future. It was really cool to hear the guys tell stories from years past. How they have gotten into and out of jams. One of my favorite stories was how chairing these events have made the world seem so small to the men.
“We are all just people paying mortgages” looking to see the world, meet people, Share stories and have fun.
I wish I could have spent more than 5 hours in Ottawa, it’s my kind of town and Jim and Rick are my kind of people. On the way to the airport we stopped for a quick beer, it could have very easily turned into ten but we had one and made our flight home with a box full of WARR history and a head full of human stories.

In my last letter to the team captains I asked for anyone who is not willing to work for the success of WARR to try and find a team mate who might like to step in and either take over or help out. After all, this is not an easy job if done right. Each and every one of you needs to bring more runners to our event. Weather you bring 100 or you bring 2. It’s time to bring 110 and its time to bring 4. You get the idea; London is the perfect venue to get co-workers involved. London sounds like it’s going to be the quintessential opportunity to show off WARR.

The story of how Boeing was landed. Forgive me if I’m off in the details a little but I heard a lot in one day about the history of WARR. Just a maintenance guy in a hanger that asked his Boss if knew anyone that could help his running club find a sponsor. The Boss asked his manager who asked a supplier who asked Boeing. This is how sponsors are found. The board will continue to write letters and make cold calls in hopes of finding some sponsors for WARR but we need each and every one of you to spread the word. You know “the guy in the hanger” If you work in reservations does you supervisor know someone at Saber or Apollo? If you work in sales do you know someone who might be able to help support WARR? Don’t forget to tell them about the web page and our Charity for 2010.

Canadians know how to treat friends and guests.
Went to Ottawa for a WARR meeting and Jim picked
myself and some of the new board members up at the
airport and took us to his home. We had an nice lunch and
talked over past WARRS and the future of WARR. Rick joined
us and we went over 2011 and 2012 and hope to be able to announce
2011 by the end of January 2010.
The flight back to Chicago was awesome, I was able to follow the sunset off my right shoulder.
Looking north up the center of lake Michigan was a nice cap to the day.

Runners,

Not many Idea's came in for ways to raise funds for WARR.
Weather you think its a bad idea or a great idea, pass it along.
I was thinking about designing a WARR training shirt. Maybe something
that says " Training for 2010 in London, ask me about it" on the back.
Some type of a collage of Airline logo's on the front. Then there are a few guys
putting together a DVD full of pictures from WARR 2009 in China and want to
put it up for sale on the Website. Watch for that to happen soon and tell
all your team members about it. I can't stress enough how much we need to
raise some funds to lower the cost of the race and the event weekend in London. We also need money in the bank to start planning 2011. Don't be shy, ask your team
members for idea's. Can be as small as a bake sale, selling Christmas cards whatever you can think of.

I just heard from Roderick, the
estimates the team captains have given him
show us with 1500 plus runners for 2010. Of course, that can go up or down
based on the Economy and some external factors but it sure
does sound like a PARTY in the making. Oh yeah, with a run or two mixed in.

I know its early but keep spreading the word, this is the time
of year when most people choose vacation time for 2010.

Welcome to the WARR web page!

Well, as everyone had warned me the job of Chairman has been a load of work at the start. The amount of e-mails alone are overwhelming.

The more I dig in, the more rewarding I think it may become.

Keep checking back, I will try and change pictures often and with Richards help keep the web page current and up to date with the best information I have available to me. As I peek over the shoulders of the BA team working on 2010, I can see they are doing an amazing job! They have an awesome plan coming together for all of us to enjoy the great city of London. When you bid your vacation for 2010 keep that in mind, its going to be an amazing WARR in 2010.

I hope eveyone is well and back home safe from China and WARR 2009.
