Latest Update for WARR China 2012 – Running With Dragons

Your WARR Executive Committee has been working furiously over the past few days since our last update of September 25.  We had hoped to bring you some additional news before this, but the complex communication channels between Tinbo agency in Ottawa, the city of Qingdao in China, and other principles including the China National Tourist Office and the venues in Qingdao have slowed the flow of information.  This has been an unprecedented effort in dealing with cultural differences and diplomacy to try and rearrange a year’s worth of planning and commitments in order to salvage an enjoyable event weekend and race.

Shortly after we sent out the last update, the city of Qingdao asked us to delay our event until next spring.  After we told them that this was not possible due to runners already committed to reservations and time off, they then asked us to delay it until next month.  As you can see it is very difficult to convey our intentions and urgency within the constraints of email communications, time and cultural differences.  This morning we received a reply from Mr. Yan Xu, the Director of the Chinese National Tourist Office from an email we had sent a while ago.  He apologized for not replying earlier as he had been out of the country.  His reply was:  It would be a win-win situation if the Sporting event could be held in Qingdao as scheduled.  I’ve contacted with Qingdao Tourism and asked them trying to find out an appropriate way. Hope Qingdao Tourism could give me a positive reply and make things easier.”  While his reply is certainly a positive response to our plight, we are continuing on our own to make things happen.

We have contacted some local running clubs in Qingdao for assistance in setting up some kind of race for our WARRiors, preferably a professional timed race but, at minimum, an interesting course where we could at least hold a “fun run”.  We are also in contact with the Copthorne Hotel in Qingdao and working to secure a place in the hotel or nearby where we can conduct “Meet and Greet” and the T-Shirt Swap parties.  There are numerous interesting and scenic opportunities to explore in Qingdao and we are trying to work out some possibilities for our members to partake in some of these on a group or individual basis.

Keep watching your inbox; the information flow should be improving as we are now using multiple channels of communication to finalize an enjoyable WARR China agenda.

September push is on!! Running with Dragons 2012 needs your help

Over the last month we have come a long way attracting runners for our event in China, “Running with Dragons”.  September is the time to make the final push to fill out the field.

The International World Airline Road Race committee is going to do all it can to attract runner to this year’s event so we are going to hold a registration “drive” until September 25th 2012. The goal is simple; get more runners to the event in China. How do you get credit? The registering runner must put your name down under “how did you hear about the event” when they register on-line.  They can also send an e-mail to runmax@yahoo.com within 24 hours of registering explaining who urged them to complete the registering process.  Anyone is able to partake so please pass this along to everyone you know and let’s get some more runners to the event, after all “the more the merrier”

Each time a runner gives us your name we will put that in the drawing pool, so the more runners you urge the more chances you get to win. There will be two winners drawn on the 26nd of September, First prize $300.00 USD and runner up will win $200.00 USD

The September Registration Push is on for WARR China 2012

We are nearing the one month mark until WARRiors gather in Quigdao for this years WARR. Your International Commitee is still working to help make this a WARR to remember. Many of you have attended multiple WARR events in the past and you are our most valuable recruiters to introduce new members to what you already know is a great tradition. Spread the word!

Here's a simple promtion called "share the link" Use Facebook and e-mail

Tag as many friends as you can who are runners or work for an airline, this will be fun and help spread the word about our club.

It's called "share the link"

Facebook can be a very powerful tool and we need to use it to its fullest, right now while you are at your computer tag some friends and co-workers. "Share the link" right click copy and then re-paste to a friend or co-worker.

More about the Meet and Greet and T-Shirt parties

Both the "Meet and Greet" and the "T-shirt swap" parties will have drawings for cash prizes up to a total of $500.00 USD at each party. You do not have to be a runner to attend the parties but you have to be a registered runner and present at the event to claim a prize from the drawing. Good luck to all runners in Qingdao! Please start to book hotel rooms and flights as the sooner you book the lower the prices. Also start the visa process early as there are some new rules this year. You need to have detail on your flights and hotels available when you apply for the visa.
